Colorado Unit 133 Description

Unit 133 Located in Huerfano, Pueblo and Las Animas Counties bounded on the North by Colorado 10; on the East by Colorado Interstate Gas Pipeline Rd.; on the South by Apishapa River; on the West by I-25.

GMU 133 Elevation: 6,450 to 4,798 feet. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling with irregular plateaus and steep canyons.
Vegetation: Shortgrass prairie with limited farm land, cottonwood riparian, and pinon/juniper. Weather: Mild with first freeze/snow possible early October. Land Status: Approximately 99 percent private. Hunter Access: Good for pronghorn; fair for deer. Deer: Along Apishapa River. Elk: Pinon / juniper and canyon areas. Pronghorn: Throughout northern three-fourths of unit. Small Game: The Apishapa Canyon offers the best hunting in the unit. Cottontail rabbits and scaled quail. Turkey hunting is marginal because of low densities.
